79.35 hectares parcel of land near the Governors Office at Oke Mosan Abeokuta was identified, demarcated and handed over to members of Abeokuta Golf Club. This land was eventually surveyed on Plan No AB646 with the title: Site for Abeokuta Golf Course (within Secretariat Complex)
From early in 1987, the Club then proceeded to clear the entire parcel of land with assistance from the Ministry of Works, Ogun River Basin Development Authority, OGADEP, 32 Infantry Brigade Alamala, and some private tractor-hiring companies
After clearing the site, the Club requested for professional assistance from NAGA, GUN, PGAN, sister Golf Clubs in Ikeja, Ewekoro, Ibadan, Ikoyi and Ilorin for the design and construction of an18-hole Golf course. The responses were overwhelming.
The construction and maintenance works on the Course were funded through members’ subscriptions and donations from Government, private companies, individuals and tournament sponsorships.
In order to provide training for prospective golfers, the State Government employed a Professional Golfer through the State’s Sports Council and assigned him to the Cub. It was a partnership that worked as many golfers were trained through this process.
A makeshift shed was donated by Ogun State Property Investment Corporation (OPIC) to be used a temporary club house.
The playing of Golf then started in earnest, once again, in Abeokuta.
